Benjamin Fredrick, Nigerian defender for Brentford FC, wearing the red and white home jersey

Nigeria international Benjamin Fredrick was named among the substitutes for Brentford’s Premier League match against Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday, 18 September 2026.

The 21-year-old centre-back, born in Kaduna on 28 May 2005, has yet to make his senior debut for the Bees but has been part of the first-team squad since July after signing a new four-year contract with a club option for a further year.

He watched from the bench as Brentford defeated Chelsea 3-0 with second-half goals from Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fábio Carvalho on Matchday 5.

Fredrick joined Brentford B on loan from Nigerian side Simoiben Football Academy in August 2023 and made the move permanent the following April. He developed through the club’s youth ranks, earning the Brentford B Players’ Player of the Year award in 2025 after helping the side win the Under-21 Professional Development League title and reach the Premier League Cup final.

A subsequent season-long loan to Belgian Pro League club FCV Dender in 2025-26 brought 14 to 15 appearances before a knee injury ended the spell early. He has since returned to full fitness and featured for Brentford’s under-21 side while building match sharpness.
