Former Nigerian international and ex-Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has been unveiled as Ambassador for the 2026 Adamawa State Governor's Cup by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The appointment was formalized on Tuesday at the Government House in Yola when the governor received Kanu and his delegation. Kanu, who currently serves as Chairman of Enyimba FC and is widely known as Papilo, announced the honour on social media, stating the project aims to create opportunities for young footballers across the state.

The tournament will feature teams from all 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa, taking talent discovery beyond the capital into rural communities. Governor Fintiri described sports as central to youth empowerment, noting that administrations that fail to develop youths through sports risk being left behind.

Kanu said football transformed his life and that the Governor's Cup will provide a pathway for youngsters to be identified by professional scouts and linked to clubs at national and international levels.
