Tolu Arokodare scored the equalizing goal for Ajax in their 2-2 Eredivisie draw against Excelsior on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam.
The Nigerian striker entered the match as a substitute in the 62nd minute and found the net two minutes later. His goal canceled out Excelsior’s brief lead and secured a point for the home side in the seventh round of the Dutch league.
Ajax had taken the lead in the 32nd minute through Julian Brandt. Excelsior responded with a goal from Lennard Hartjes in first-half stoppage time to make it 1-1 at the break. Early in the second half, Aymen Sliti put the visitors ahead in the 62nd minute.
Arokodare then finished a pass from Oscar Gloukh from close range to restore parity at 2-2. Ajax controlled much of the contest with 81 percent possession and 33 shots compared to Excelsior’s four, but could not convert their dominance into a winning goal.
The equalizer marked Arokodare’s sixth goal of the season across all competitions. The 25-year-old, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, had recovered from a recent fever and made an immediate impact after replacing Kasper Dolberg.
Ajax remain fourth in the Eredivisie standings with 14 points from seven matches, while Excelsior moved up to sixth. Ajax’s next fixture is at home against NEC Nijmegen.
