Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has set a clear target for the Super Eagles ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, calling for victories in their opening two fixtures. 

Nigeria will begin Group L at home against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, September 25, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m. WAT. The team will then travel to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29, in the second matchday of the qualifiers. The opening match will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Lookman was included in head coach Eric Chelle's 24-man roster for the window alongside captain Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen and Alex Iwobi. The squad is set to kickstart the qualifying campaign this month after being announced by the Nigeria Football Federation. Speaking ahead of the games, the forward said the squad is focused and prepared for a difficult challenge. 

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman says Nigeria are determined to make a strong start to their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign by winning their opening two matches.

"The whole team is looking forward to it. Two very important games are approaching, and the opponents are, of course, difficult to face. But we are looking forward to winning these two games," he said in an interview. He added: "We know that the games will be difficult, but we will do everything possible to achieve it."
