| Abia State police arrived at Enyimba International football club |
The power struggle at Enyimba International Football Club intensified on Monday when Sporting Director Daniel Eke arrived at the team’s training ground with officers from the Abia State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad.
The session, held the day after Enyimba’s 1-0 home defeat to Inter Lagos, was cut short as the officers took the stadium manager and some of his staff into custody. Club chairman Nwankwo Kanu and board member Uche Okechukwu were present during the incident at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Witnesses reported that Kanu had been preparing to address the players when the police arrived. Videos from the scene showed officials and players in confusion as the officers led the stadium manager and staff away.
Kanu later accompanied the squad to the Rapid Response Squad office. A fan account linked the action to an alleged altercation the previous day outside the stadium gates involving Eke and some stadium officials after the loss to Inter Lagos.
The disruption left the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions without a training session ahead of their next fixture. Enyimba have started the 2026/27 season without a point from their opening three matches.
The club has faced prolonged administrative tensions, including competing appointments to the sporting director and coaching roles by the board and Abia State Government.
