Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has been called up to the Super Eagles squad for September's opening qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Galatasaray received the formal invitation for the forward, a development first reported by Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük. The call-up is for Nigeria's Group L fixtures against Madagascar on September 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, and against Guinea-Bissau four days later in Bissau.
The invitation places Osimhen back in the national team process as head coach Eric Chelle prepares to begin the qualifying campaign. His availability, remains uncertain. Osimhen suffered a right groin injury during Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on September 4, scoring before leaving the match in the 33rd minute.
The club said medical tests showed a moderate to advanced strain with bleeding in the right groin area and that treatment had started, with a return expected after the international break.
Nigeria were drawn in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania, who as co-hosts of the 2027 finals are already automatically qualified. That leaves one qualification spot to be decided among the other three teams.
