Turkish champions Galatasaray have asked the Nigeria Football Federation to excuse striker Victor Osimhen from international duty because of an injury, but the federation has rejected the request.

The club reportedly sent a formal letter stating that Osimhen is injured, needs to continue treatment in Istanbul, and should not be released. The Nigerian federation responded that it wants the player in the national team camp.

The details of the exchange were reported by journalist Volkan Kilic on HT Spor's Perspective program on Friday. According to the report, Galatasaray informed the NFF that Osimhen has an injury that requires ongoing treatment and therefore asked not to release him for international duty.

The NFF declined the request, stating that it wants Osimhen included in the squad and that his treatment can continue while with the national team. Kilic noted that whether the forward actually plays is the major concern for Galatasaray.

The forward suffered a right adductor muscle strain on September 4 during Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir and missed subsequent matches against Kocaelispor and Sporting Lisbon. Galatasaray has left him out of the squad for Saturday's Super Lig match against Trabzonspor.

Galatasaray is currently concerned that travel and match action could worsen the injury after a strong start in which Osimhen scored six goals and provided two assists in four league appearances.
