Victor Osimhen wearing Galatasaray white away jersey with hand on chest during Turkish Super Lig match

Turkish football pundit Emre Bol says Victor Osimhen has been masking underlying problems at Galatasaray, and recent results have exposed the club's dependence on the Nigerian striker.

The comments followed Galatasaray's 4-0 loss to Trabzonspor at Papara Park on Saturday, September 19, 2026. It was the Turkish champions' second defeat in the three matches Osimhen has missed across all competitions during his current spell on the sidelines, a run that has raised questions about squad depth.

Osimhen has been undergoing individual rehabilitation and trained separately from the squad last week, raising hopes of a return that did not materialize for the Trabzonspor trip. Before his absence, the Super Eagles forward scored in each of Galatasaray's opening four Turkish Super Lig games this season, helping the reigning champions collect 10 points from 12 with three wins and one draw.

Bol, speaking on Sports Digital, said Osimhen's goals and performances had concealed flaws in squad construction and made the team appear stronger than it was. He argued that the striker had single-handedly carried Galatasaray through several matches and that the gap has become clear only in his absence.

According to Bol, Osimhen's return will again cover those issues. Galatasaray are monitoring his recovery ahead of upcoming league fixtures, while the striker has also been named in Nigeria's squad for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
