Twenty-year-old Fulham midfielder Chibuzo Nwoko has received his first senior call-up to Nigeria's Super Eagles for an international friendly against Russia, Soar Africa reports.

Head coach Eric Chelle named Nwoko in a 24-man squad announced on Thursday for the match scheduled for October 6 at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. The selection marks a major step for the versatile midfielder, who has come through the Fulham academy system and recently broke into the club's first team.

The call-up follows Nwoko's senior debut for Fulham last month. He came off the bench for the final 22 minutes in a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at Craven Cottage on August 27 in the EFL Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup. Nwoko has been with Fulham since the Under-13 level after joining from neighbouring Chelsea and captained the club's Under-18 side before moving to the Under-21s.

Last season he gained first-team experience on loan at Forest Green Rovers, where he made 20 appearances and contributed a goal and an assist.

Chelle's squad for the Russia fixture is experimental, featuring 14 fresh faces as the coach assesses depth beyond the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in late September.
