Former Super Eagles defender Ben Iroha has cautioned Nigeria’s national team about the challenges awaiting them in their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Speaking after the side’s 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo on Friday, Iroha said the away fixture against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau would prove tougher. He congratulated the team on opening their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with three points but stressed that the work is far from finished. He told Completesports.
Iroha pointed to Guinea-Bissau’s strong start, a 2-0 away win over Tanzania that left them top of Group L on goal difference. He noted the hosts’ physical style of play and the lift they will take from performing in front of their own supporters.
Nigeria currently sit second in the group on the same points total, making the match an early contest for control of the standings in a section where co-hosts Tanzania already hold an automatic place at the finals.
The Super Eagles travelled to Bissau after limited recovery time following the Madagascar game. Head coach Eric Chelle’s squad is expected to complete final preparations in the host city before kick-off at 5pm Nigerian time.
