| Wilfred Ndidi speaking to Football Fans Chat at Uyo Sports Stadium |
Wilfred Ndidi, the Super Eagles captain and Beşiktaş midfielder, sat down with Football Fans Tribe September 25 to discuss his decision to move to the Turkish Super Lig.
In the interview released on September 24, 2026, the 29-year-old defensive midfielder explained why he joined a growing group of Nigerian players and other high-profile talents in Turkey’s top flight.
Ndidi described the league as underrated, pointing to its competitive intensity, technical quality, and passionate support as key draws after his long spell in English football.
Ndidi completed a permanent transfer from Leicester City to Beşiktaş in August 2025 for a reported fee of around €8 million, signing a three-year deal with an option for a further year. He arrived after eight seasons at the King Power Stadium, where he made more than 300 appearances.
The move placed him alongside compatriots such as Victor Osimhen at Galatasaray, Paul Onuachu at Trabzonspor, and others including Gift Orban, forming a notable Nigerian presence across the Super Lig.
In earlier comments about the switch, Ndidi had cited the club’s project, the unique energy of Beşiktaş supporters at Vodafone Park, and the chance to experience a new league and environment as major factors.
The midfielder has since become a regular and was named vice-captain not long after arriving. He has contributed goals and leadership while adapting to the league’s rhythm, which he has previously contrasted with the Premier League’s pace by highlighting its strong technical players and tactical variety.
