Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray striker, has reached Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to stand with Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar.

The match is set for Friday, 25 September 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, with kick-off at 5:00 pm West Africa Time. Osimhen will not play after being ruled out with a muscle strain sustained while on club duty, yet he chose to travel and join the squad in person.

The injury forced Osimhen’s withdrawal from the 24-man squad selected by head coach Eric Chelle. Nigeria’s football authorities confirmed the setback after the striker’s recovery proved slower than hoped, prompting a late call-up for Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi as replacement.

Madagascar’s Barea arrived in Uyo earlier in the week and have completed final preparations for the Group L fixture. The Super Eagles have gathered at their camp in the state, with the bulk of the European-based players now on the ground for the important home opener.
