George Ilenikhena scored on his senior international debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday, September 25, 2026, equalizing against Madagascar in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The 20-year-old Al-Ittihad striker, born in Lagos, started the Group L match at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo and found the net in first-half stoppage time. Alex Iwobi provided the assist for the goal that made the score 1-1 at the break. Madagascar had taken the lead in the 16th minute through Ehsan Kari.

Ilenikhena received his first senior call-up from head coach Eric Chelle for the opening qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. He started alongside Akor Adams in attack in the absence of injured striker Victor Osimhen.

The lineup also featured Stanley Nwabali in goal, a back four of Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Bruno Onyemaechi, with Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman in midfield and advanced roles.

The result leaves both teams with a point from their first Group L fixture. Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, host the match as they begin the campaign toward the 2027 finals in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
