Nigerian defender Benjamin Fredrick could make his senior debut for Brentford when the Premier League side travel to face Reading in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

The tie is scheduled for 8 p.m. BST on Tuesday, 15 September at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading. Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said the defender is expected to be involved after the club deliberately left him out of its B-team fixture on Sunday.

Fredrick, 21, joined Brentford from Nigerian academy Simoiben FC in 2023 before making the move permanent in April 2024. He spent last season on loan at Belgian side FCV Dender but suffered a serious knee injury in November that ended his spell abroad.

Andrews said the player has had limited football since then but returned in recent weeks, noting: "We decided not to play him in the B team game on Sunday to make sure he was in the right place to be available for our game against Reading. I anticipate he'll be involved".

The club promoted him to the senior squad in July and gave him a new four-year contract with an option for a further year. He has already made his senior international debut for Nigeria, starting the Unity Cup final in May 2025.
